It’s disappointing that we need to ask and push for transparency in Government – and it’s important to note that this need is well beyond that of access to official council meetings and debates.

I cannot understand why the community is not engaged during important strategic planning processes at a local government level – for instance in many councils a draft budget is presented each year for community consultation. Why does this not happen with our #SunshineCoastCouncil ? Yes, there are items that will be commercially sensitive – and there are ways to manage these items.

Transparency, accountability, fairness and respect for the community is critical for our council to regain the trust of the community.

It’s time to move out of the era of secrecy and the types of people who support it and into a time where community is first.
