To be a proactive member of the community you need not to just observe – you need to take part. It’s not enough simply to attend events – active community members volunteer and support.

This is why I have always volunteered everywhere that I have lived. Since we have made the Sunshine Coast our home I have spent a number of years volunteering with various community groups, not for profits and business networks. Just some of these have included:
– STEPS Charity
– The Old Ambo at Nambour
– The Nambour Alliance
– The Caloundra, Glasshouse and Montville Chambers of Commerce.

I’ve also spent many weekends baking and creating goods for fundraising, walked and talked to raise money and awareness for key social issues in our community.

As a local business owner I also understand how important it is to connect with our broader regional community.

On the weekend I attended the Sunshine Coast Business Awards as the only sole trader to be selected as a finalist in the Professional Services category.

Today I received confirmation from the Telstra Business Women’s Awards that I will be participating in a process where I will continue to meet and learn from a range of inspiring and committed business leaders.

It’s important that as candidates who are seeking represent our community that we can demonstrate how we have supported, learned from and been active members of our region.
